Remembering and honoring those who have sacrificed to make our lives better

“Remembering and honoring those who have sacrificed to make our lives better.”

Greetings!  Ecclesiastes 9:13-18 (NIV version) reads “I also saw under the sun this example of wisdom that greatly impressed me:  There was once a small city with only a few people in it.  And a powerful king came against it, surrounded it and built huge siege works against it.  Now there lived in that city a man poor but wise, and he saved the city by his wisdom.  But nobody remembered that poor man.  So I said.  “Wisdom is better than strength.”  But the poor man’s wisdom is despised, and his words are no longer needed.  The quiet words of the wise are more to be heeded than the shouts of a ruler of fools.  Wisdom is better than weapons of war, but one sinner destroys much good.”  This is a powerful Bible scripture here!  The poor wise man saved the city that was in trouble but he is not remembered and his wisdom despised and his words no longer heeded.  This in itself is a tragedy!  We must reflect and remember those in our own personal lives, our communities and even throughout history that made sacrifices for the betterment of humanity.  Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior made the greatest sacrifice of all (reference scripture is John 3:16 NIV version which reads “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.)!  As we reflect on that it will help us to appreciate how far we have come and it should encourage us to continue to build on that and do even better!
We are also reminded in Exodus 1:8 (King James Version) which reads “Now there arose up a new king over Egypt, which knew not Joseph.”  Joseph as mentioned in Genesis chapters 41 through 50 had saved Egypt, the children of Israel and even the world from starvation and famine.  Yet Joseph meant nothing to this new king of Egypt who therefore ended up enslaving the Israelites who were Joseph’s people which is referenced in Exodus 1:8-22.  This is why it is so important and good to remember the sacrifices of those who have paved the way for us and to see how it applies to us currently as well.  Thus we will not repeat the same mistakes over and over again.   The Holy Spirit will help us with this but we must listen to Him as He leads us into all truth!
So with the above mentioned let’s all together remember and honor those who have sacrificed to make our lives better.  Some may still be with us and some may have passed on but we can still honor their memory and the good they stood for.  With the help of God/Jesus, the Holy Spirit and each other we can and will do this!  Peace ✌️ ☮️ 🕊 and love ❤️!!
